The Notre Dame family and the Congregation of Holy Cross have a long history of engagement and partnership with Haiti—"an enduring, decades-long presence," in the words of University President Rev. John Jenkins, C.S.C.
Holy Cross bishops, priests, seminarians, and their collaborators have brought hope to Haiti in the spiritual and material realms since 1944. Currently the University's commitment to Haiti is concentrated in the areas of health research, sustainable infrastructure, and education.
Following the 2010 earthquake, Notre Dame and ACE supported the rebuilding of
Basil Moreau School, a Holy Cross primary and high school in Port-au-Prince, and
embarked with several partners on a national initiative to strengthen Catholic
education in Haiti.
