Critical Consumers of Information in Language Arts

Purpose Statement:

To explore the ability of students to become critical consumers of information after current events had been added to their language arts class. Connecting information to current events can help students become critical consumers of information and help students become more engaged with content (Pitcher et al, 2007). Students can become more proficient with searching for resources through more experiences with information literacy (Grimble & Williams, 2004).

Research Questions:

Do assignments using current events in language arts provide meaningful learning and research experiences? How will adding current events to a language arts class help students to become more skillful with information literacy?
