RLP Graduate Thom Suhy, who conducted action research on Latino parent engagement while in the program, has continued a similar line of research and engagement at Southern Methodist University. Currently a doctoral student in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development, Suhy played a lead role in convening a fall 2012 summit focused on parent involvement in schooling. He and colleagues recently released a white paper meant to serve as a guide for parent leaders, educators, and practitioners in developing effective parent involvement programs for children from birth to college in low-income communities (Suhy, Howell, & Parker, 2013).
