A Blueprint for Highly Effective Parent Involvement

RLP Graduate Thom Suhy, who conducted action research on Latino parent engagement while in the program, has continued a similar line of research and engagement at Southern Methodist University. Currently a doctoral student in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development, Suhy played a lead role in convening a fall 2012 summit focused on parent involvement in schooling. He and colleagues recently released a white paper meant to serve as a guide for parent leaders, educators, and practitioners in developing effective parent involvement programs for children from birth to college in low-income communities (Suhy, Howell, & Parker, 2013).

Supporting the Professional Growth of Teachers

Brendan Keane, a faculty member at Charlotte Catholic High School and recent graduate of the Remick Leadership Program, has worked for over a year to develop a teacher observation system designed to help teachers improve their instructional practices. This fall Brendan shared his action research with Catholic school teachers and leaders from across the state of North Carolina at the North Carolina Catholic Schools Education Conference. His presentation, Perspectives on a New Evaluation and Growth Process at Charlotte Catholic High School, is summarized on this poster.

Remick Leadership Principal Publishes Article on Academic Integrity

Camille Burgess Jowanna, a graduate of the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program, recently published an article in the online journal, i.e.,: inquiry in education.  Based on the action research project she conducted while in the program, the article examines whether the implementation of a high school honor code diminishes incidents of academic dishonesty.  Camille currently serves as Principal of Academy of the Holy Names located in Tampa, Florida.
