Master of Education (M.Ed)

Through the ACE Teaching Fellows, the Alliance for Catholic Education offers a Master of Education degree. Part of a two-year, post-graduate service opportunity in an under-resourced Catholic school, the academic program provides professional preparation that will enable participants to make a deep and profound difference in the lives of the children they serve.

The ACE M.Ed. prepares teachers by integrating graduate level coursework, online learning, and an immersion teaching experience. Throughout their two years, ACE teachers receive a fully-funded fellowship which includes a cost-free Master of Education degree from the University of Notre Dame. Upon graduation, they are eligible for state licensure as a elementary, middle school, or high school teacher.

Master of Arts in Educational Leadership (MAEL)

Through the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program, the Alliance for Catholic Education offers a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership. Integrating graduate level coursework with a leadership internship experience, the program allows potential leaders to work toward state certification and licensure for service as school principals while teaching and helping to lead a Catholic school.

Courses are offered through a 44-credit hour sequence delivered over 25 months, including four-week summer sessions, a distance-learning enhanced administrative internship during the school year, and annual retreats. The centerpiece of the summer programs is an innovative, inter-disciplinary curriculum, taught by a distinguished faculty from Notre Dame and around the country. Leadership participants receive on-site support from mentor principals and occasional site visits by ACE team members to monitor professional progress. The curriculum is specifically tailored to foster Catholic school leadership. The program culminates in a master’s degree in educational administration for all participants and with state principal certification for those with teaching licenses.

ENL Certification

The Alliance for Catholic Education offers a one-year, 18 credit hour English as a New Language (ENL) teaching certification program at the University of Notre Dame. Since its inception, the ENL program has helped Catholic school teachers across the country and the world learn to support English language learners by promoting cultural inclusion, implementing innovative teaching strategies, and making lesson and assessment modifications. The curriculum of the ENL program is tailored specifically to the reality of Catholic schools, and credit can lead to ENL/ESL/ELL certification in most states.
