High School Mid-Year Exams: A Question of Timing
Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this action research project is two- fold: to evaluate the effect of mid-year exam policy change on student achievement and to evaluate the teachers’ and students’ overall satisfaction with this new policy.
Research Questions:
Did student performance on mid-year exams improve as a result of the date change of mid-year exams when comparing mid-year exam grades from January 2010 to grades from December 2010? What were the teachers’ and students’ opinions of the policy before and after the mid-year exams took place? What unforeseen positive and negative effects, if any, did the policy change have on the school community?
