Book Guides Educators through Action Research

on Friday, 04 November 2011.

ACE is offering an updated resource to assist Catholic school teachers and leaders in generating the kind of research that will help solve problems and benefit students in the local school setting. By embracing this mission-driven and data-informed stance, Catholic educational leaders are better equipped and more empowered to act in ways that support the Catholic schools and Catholic education.

This practical educational research – also known as action research – is embodied in ACE's Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program (RLP), where the curriculum granting a Master of Arts in Educational Administration degree includes an action research project conducted by each participant.
The resource developed to help these participants—and other educators interested in such inquiries—is a book available from ACE Press. The second edition of Action Research in Catholic Schools: A Step-by-Step Guide for Practitioners, authored by RLP faculty members Anthony Holter and Jim Frabutt, can be ordered online at acepress.nd.edu or at Amazon.com.

Looking for examples of action research? Projects undertaken as part of RLP participants' preparation for the MA degree and presented at the annual Remick Leadership Conference are compiled by Professors Holter and Frabutt at their action research website.

Action Research in Catholic Schools guides readers through a structured process for developing a project and final report, including a discussion of research methods, exercises that help educators to refine and reflect upon their projects, and the integration of research into one's professional responsibilities.

The second edition also includes sample research briefs and conference posters produced by students in the Remick Leadership Program. It is updated to adhere to guidelines in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, sixth edition.

The cost of the 176-page book is $39.99.
