Support Catholic Schools by Supporting ACE
Dear Friends,
Greetings from Notre Dame and the Alliance for Catholic Education! As we celebrate Advent, I am mindful of how blessed we are for the mission that we share and for the support of so many whose generosity enables us to serve needy families and children. Thanks to your generosity, last year’s annual appeal raised over $90,000, enabling ACE to pursue two timely and crucial initiatives—1) to support our implementation of the recommendations in To Nurture the Soul of a Nation, the report of the Notre Dame task force on the participation of Latino children and families, and 2) to advance our efforts to respond to the acute educational needs of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the wake of the earthquake that wreaked widespread devastation in Haiti. Allow me a brief word on each of these important initiatives.
First, as you are perhaps aware, we seek to increase the number of Latino children who have access to what scholars term “the Catholic school advantage.” Over the past year, Fr. Joe Corpora, CSC, the leader of this campaign, has shared his expertise in dozens of dioceses and at national workshops on how to attract Latino families to Catholic schools and serve them more effectively. To reach its ambitious goal, however, this campaign will require all the creativity and resolve of numerous stakeholders, and your continued support is vital and deeply appreciated.
Second, in addition to its domestic efforts, ACE has also embarked on a substantial initiative, in collaboration with key international partners to address to the educational crisis in Haiti, where the educational mission of the Congregation of Holy Cross to the very poor was dealt a serious blow by the earthquake. Your generosity has made it possible for ACE to play a leadership role in helping to rebuild Haiti’s Catholic schools, as well as to lay the groundwork for a Teacher Training Institute to provide for the future preparation of Haitian educators.
