Or maybe, she will tell you that she is a global curriculum designer, a multi-continental traveler, or an Arctic scientific researcher. She has, after all, worn each of these titles during her career as an educator.

Rachel Luna: Surprise Speaker

An unexpected guest brought tears to many eyes at the University of Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education Commencement this summer. At the invitation of Fr. Tim Scully, C.S.C.,  Rachel Luna, an 18-year-old recent graduate of Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Montebello, CA, closed the ceremony with an eloquent expression of gratitude for the ACE teachers who have greatly impacted her education.

Cardinal Blase Cupich of the Archdiocese of Chicago blessed 255 teachers and leaders as part of the Alliance for Catholic Education’s (ACE) Missioning Mass on July 27 as they prepared to leave the University of Notre Dame’s campus and serve students in Cathoilc schools around the country.

Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings spoke to a standing-room only crowd of Catholic-school teachers and leaders July 25, encouraging them to use culturally relevant pedagogy to help their students understand how education is relevant to their future.
