Dublin, OHWhat do you hope to do/accomplish as an ACE Teacher?
As an ACE teacher, I hope to foster a true love for learning among the students I have the opportunity to teach. This is something that has been instilled in me by so many teachers, and I would love to be able to pass that on, as education is such a valuable resource. In addition, I hope to be part of a community that helps form compassionate, loving, and kind people.
What experiences at your undergraduate institution helped shape your decision to pursue teaching as a possible vocation?
I have taken two Community Based Learning courses at Notre Dame, both of which gave me the opportunity to spend time at the Holy Cross School in South Bend. In these classes, I was able to spend time, tutor, and read with elementary aged students. These were both incredible experiences that I found rewarding and sparked my interest in education. Additionally, through a program called Dream Teams, I have volunteered at South Bend public elementary schools with fellow members of my dorm community. Through this experience, I was also able to spend time in elementary classrooms, assisting teachers with their daily activities. This allowed me to develop a greater understanding of the challenges and importance of early education, further deepening my desire to pursue ACE.
How do you hope to grow in your experience as an ACE Ambassador/Intern?
Throughout this next year, I hope to prepare myself each and every day for when I enter the classroom. It is a little nerve-racking to know that in about a year I will have the incredible responsibility of being a teacher, so I hope to learn a lot from the deep expertise that exists in the ACE community. I am also excited to continue learning more about the ACE mission and the opportunity to help spread that message to those around me.
