ACE in the City
Maryland was the early home of Catholicism in America, having been established on the basis of religious freedom for Catholics who were persecuted elsewhere. Catholic schools have served the area for over 350 years, longer than America has been a nation.
Today, ACE Consulting serves in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and recently conducted a survey with the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium to determine the level and quality of participation in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for students attending Catholic schools in Baltimore and five neighboring dioceses.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore is also home to a Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program graduate, Mary Louque, who currently serves as Director of Admissions and Assistant to the President as Gerstell Academy in Finksburg.

The University of Notre Dame Sorin Award for Service to Catholic Schools
Earl and Darielle Linehan have devoted their lives to service and support of the Baltimore community. In addition to establishing the Earl and Darielle Linehan Family Trust Fund to support Catholic schools, education and youth ministry through Baltimore’s Catholic Community Fund, Earl has served on the boards of several institutions of Catholic education including the Advisory Council for the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, the Board of Directors of St. Mary’s Seminary and University and the boards of both St. Ignatius Loyola Academy and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore.
The University of Notre Dame Champion for Education Award
Freeman A. Hrabowski III has served as President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County since 1992. Throughout his career, he has emphasized math and science education and advocated specifically for minority populations within the educational system. In 2011, Hrabowski chaired the National Academies’ committee that produced the recent report, Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation: America’s Science and Technology Talent at the Crossroads. He also was recently named by President Obama to chair the newly created President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans.
In 1988, Hrabowski co-founded the Meyerhoff Scholars Program with philanthropist Robert Meyerhoff. The program is open to all high-achieving students committed to pursuing advanced degrees and research careers in science and engineering and is focused on advancing underrepresented minorities in these fields. The program is recognized as a national model, and based on program outcomes, Hrabowski has authored numerous articles and co-authored two books, Beating the Odds and Overcoming the Odds (Oxford University Press), focusing on parenting and developing high-achieving African American males and females in science.
