ACE Visits Baton Rouge, LA

(Feb. 10-11)

ACE in the City:

One of the first cities ACE has served, Baton Rouge is currently home to five ACE Teaching Fellows teachers at four schools in the diocese: Redemptorist High School, Holy Family, Ascension Catholic Diocesan Regional School, and St. John High School.

A testament to ACE’s impact in Baton Rouge schools, Dominic Fanelli (ACE 18) received two outstanding awards during his time in ACE Teaching Fellows at Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Baton Rouge. In the spring of 2013, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Germany for the upcoming year. Additionally, Dominic was honored by his faculty in receiving the Brotherhood Award. Voted on by the teachers, the recipient is someone who treats others with respect, exhibits integrity, and is involved in the community.

About the Awards

The University of Notre Dame Champion of Education Award

A business leader in the Baton Rouge community, Eddie Rispone recognized the critical need for K-12 education reform, specifically in his home state of Louisiana. In 2009, Rispone funded a documentary entitled “The Experiment,” which followed five children, ages 9-12, through the 2009-2010 school year in New Orleans and included interviews with national leaders in education as well as state and city officials. The film won Best Louisiana Picture at the New Orleans Film Festival in 2011 and spurred Rispone to become a tremendous advocate for education reform, specifically focusing on school vouchers and scholarships. He currently serves as the chair of the Louisiana Federation for Children and considers advocating of the behalf of children his spiritual mission and his life’s moral purpose.
