ACE in the City:
We are honored to continue our partnership with the Archdiocese of Denver. Since 2005, eighteen ACE teachers have served in Denver schools. Their legacy of service to local Catholic schools is extended today with the presence of five ACE teachers serving five separate schools: Annunciation Catholic School, Guardian Angels Catholic School, St. Pius X Catholic School, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy, and St. Therese School.
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy, the site of our Denver School Visit, has had a tremendous increases in educational success in recent years. Over the past 15 years, 98% of students have graduated from high school! These inspiring statistics and more are featured prominently in a 2009 report of The Notre Dame Task Force on the Participation of Latino Children and Families in Catholic Schools entitled, “To Nurture the Soul of a Nation.”
Alongside our ACE teachers, the Denver ACE Advocates community is very active in the archdiocese, hosting a series of successful events to fundraise for Catholic schools.

The University of Notre Dame Sorin Award for Service to Catholic Schools
Joanne Horne and fellow parishioners from St. Thomas More Church in Englewood, Colo. founded the Ambassadors of Hope in 2003 with the mission to organize passionate volunteers to assist Catholic schools around the Archdiocese. They saw the struggles that the schools faced with low budgets and the need for an extra set of hands in the classroom, through tutoring programs, and other areas of need. Since its inception, the Ambassadors of Hope program has grown from 12 to more than 100 active members within the Denver community, and the program continues to expand its reach.
The University of Notre Dame Champion of Education Award
A leading Denver businessman and artist, Ralph Nagel and his wife Trish, a Denver lawyer, have always lived by the principle of giving back to the community. Over the years, Ralph and Trish have donated very generously to the Archdiocese of Denver, Centro San Juan Diego, Seeds of Hope Catholic Trust, Arrupe Jesuit High School, and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy. Their donations to St. Rose alone have amounted to over $1 million, allowing the school to move forward with the construction of a new gym. Additionally, Ralph and Trish recently funded a new dorm at the University of Denver and give regularly to Washington University in St. Louis, his alma mater. Ralph was also founder and former owner of Meridian Retirement Communities and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees for ACE Scholarships, a non-profit dedicated to expanding educational choices to children in Colorado by promoting greater accessibility to private schools through scholarships.
