ACE Visits Dallas/Fort Worth, TX

ACE in the Community

ACE’s presence in the Dallas/Fort Worth is strong and growing. Established in 1997 and 1996 respectively, ACE Teaching Fellows activities currently have seven teachers serving six schools in the Diocese of Dallas and six teachers serving three schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth. In Dallas, ACE Teaching Fellows serves St. Mary of Carmel, St. Luke, St. Cecilia, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, and St. Pius X parish elementary schools and Bishop Dunne High School. In Fort Worth, ACE Teaching Fellows serves St. George, St. Rita and All Saints parish schools.

Dallas is also home to graduates of the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program. At Bishop Dunne High School, Principal Patrick O’Sullivan serves alongside fellow graduates Athletic Director Guerrero Stephen, Sr., and Director of Financial Aid Gabriel Moreno. Thom Suhy previously served as principal of St. Mary of Carmel School and is now pursuing his Ph. D. in Educational Leadership and Administration at Southern Methodist University.

About the Awards

The University of Notre Dame Champion for Education Award (Dallas): SEN. JANE GRAY NELSON

 

Before joining the Texas Senate in 1993, Jane Gray Nelson was a teacher. She later served on the Texas State Board of Education. Currently, she is the highest-ranking Republican in the Senate and has made many legislative accomplishments in both education and family life. They include significant expansion of school choice, as well as measures to dedicate lottery proceeds to education, strengthen focus on fitness and nutrition in schools, raise textbook standards, assist victims of domestic violence, and better protect abused and displaced children.

 

The University of Notre Dame Sorin Award for Service to Catholic Schools (Dallas): FRITZ AND MARY LEE DUDA

Fritz and Mary Lee Duda have been outstanding supporters of Catholic higher education in America through their roles in establishing professorships and programs at prominent universities, including the University of Notre Dame. They show a special interest in fostering strong structures for the study of Catholic faith and practice. Parents of two Notre Dame graduates (Fritz Jr. ’87 and Michael ’05) and members of the University of Notre Dame Board of Trustees, Fritz and Mary Lee have made a variety of important contributions to the Alliance of Catholic Education (ACE) and its formation of faith-filled teachers for Catholic schools in cities such as Dallas.

The University of Notre Dame Sorin Award for Service to Catholic Schools (Fort Worth): REV. STEPHEN JASSO, T.O.R.

Rev. Stephen Jasso, T.O.R., pastor of All Saints Catholic Church, is a Franciscan priest who has helped to shape the future of Catholic education in Fort Worth and beyond. Serving a predominantly Hispanic community, Father. Jasso played a major role in promoting Hispanic enrollment in his parish Catholic school. He serves on the School Advisory Council of the Diocese of Fort Worth, a six-member group appointed by the bishop to promote the mission and direct the progress of Fort Worth’s Catholic schools.
