ACE Visits Richmond, VA

ACE in the Community

ACE is settling into its third year in Richmond after having established Service Through Teaching partnerships with three schools in the diocese, All Saints, St. Joseph , and St. Mary's , in 2010. Since ACE's involvement in the diocese, enrollment at these schools has more than doubled, including a significant increase in the number of Latino students. A chapter of ACE Advocates for Catholic Education, a network of alumni from ACE programs, also operates out of Richmond and frequently partners with other chapters in the Mid-Atlantic region in their support of the Catholic school community.

About the Awards

The University of Notre Dame Sorin Award for Service to Catholic Schools

Not even ten years into his position as Bishop of Richmond, the Most Rev. Francis Xavier DiLorenzo has helped to reverse the ill-fated trajectory of the diocese’s Catholic schools, whose future now looks brighter than ever. DiLorenzo organized the schools into a centrally run district, streamlining their operations from a single point of academic and financial accountability. In addition to conducting outside assessments and implementing new financial policies, DiLorenzo continues to work for the prosperity of Richmond’s Catholic schools by reaching out to the growing Hispanic population, which has so far helped to bolster enrollment and reinvigorate the local Catholic educational community. DiLorenzo and the Diocese of Richmond are constantly searching for avenues of cross-cultural outreach within their educational system, stressing the importance of diversity and inclusion in Catholic schools.
